Kelowna, BC – RE/MAX is committed to creating a future without breast cancer and the items you no longer need, can help. As the presenting sponsor, RE/MAX is proud to announce this year’s Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Yard Sale for the Cure is to be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010.
With a simple goal in mind, donate to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help find a cure, breast cancer survivor Rachael Smith and her husband, Andrew Howard founded Yard Sale for the Cure in 2005 and raised $45,000 in the first year. RE/MAX and its affiliates have dedicated themselves to this outstanding event by promoting and hosting yard sales which have contributed to the $650,000 that has been raised by Yard Sale for the Cure to date.
“This year’s Yard Sale for the Cure promises to be more successful than ever with so many opportunities to get involved,” said Marie Sheppy, Senior Coordinator, Corporate Affairs, RE/MAX of Western Canada. “With an estimated 437 Canadian women being diagnosed with breast cancer every week and 104 women dying, so many of us have loved ones we know who’ve been touched by breast cancer. As an organization, we have an obligation to do everything we can to help fund the fight.”
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation provides the public with loads of tools to help get involved with Yard Sale for the Cure. On their website, www.cbcf.org/yardsale, each year you can register your yard sale as an official sale and receive posters, yards signs, t-shirts and more, you can “Map It, Shop It!” to find all local, official yard sales, and even get tips on how to host a yard sale. On Saturday, May 29, 2010, is this year’s Yard Sale for the Cure, so encourage your friends, family and neighbors to shop the Yard Sale for the Cure locations in your area, volunteer at any of the official yard sales in your area, or visit your local RE/MAX office hosting a yard sale for a larger-than-life experience.
What started as a small local fundraiser in 2005 is now a massive national yard sale, thanks to the committed RE/MAX Broker Owners, Sales Associates, and support staff who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and gain the support of Canadians across the country. Breast cancer is the number two cause of death among Canadian women today. Despite declining breast cancer death rates, one in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetime and one in 28 will die of it.
