Report Says Canadian Households Are Building Wealth

About 70 per cent of Canadian households own their homes, and on average, more than a third of the net worth of these households is tied up in real estate. Homeowners who are hearing a lot about bubbles, crashes and slowdowns in the real estate industry can take heart from two recent reports issued by major Canadian financial institutions.

Home buyers across the country will breathe a sigh of relief in 2007, thanks to a nationwide influx of new listings that is expected to slow price appreciation in major Canadian centres, says a report released today by RE/MAX.
RE/MAX REACHES 120,000 AGENT MILESTONE

(Greenwood Village, Colo.) Real estate franchisor, RE/MAX International announced that its global membership of real estate sales associates has now reached 120,000 in 63 countries. Recently, the network also announced that franchise sales were ahead of last year’s mid-year pace.

While eastern Canada´s real estate market may be cooling off, the booming Western Provinces are more than making up for it. The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) reports that home prices were up 12.9 per cent in April compared to the same month last year. The average home sold in Canada through the MLS system cost $280,740 in April.

Kelowna, British Columbia --- The full impact of an aging baby boom generation is hitting recreational property markets across the country, according to a report released today by RE/MAX. The RE/MAX Recreational Property Report, which highlights activity in 40 major Canadian centres, found that older boomers are fueling unprecedented demand for recreational properties in 67 per cent (27) of markets surveyed during the first quarter of 2006. Never before have those aged 50 plus been such a strong segment of the recreational property market.
