Lives Lived: Monika Dery (Wife of Marcel Dery, RE/MAX 2000 Realty, Hinton, AB)
Our sincere condolences go out to Marcel Dery (Broker/Owner, RE/MAX 2000 Realty) and his entire family. Marcel’s wife, Monika, passed away on Monday, April 11, at the age of 69.
Although Monika’s life was cut short, it was still full of creativity, generosity, love, fun and caring for people, nature and animals.
Born in Ochsenhausen, Germany, December 29, 1946, Monika immigrated to Canada in August, 1951 with her family. They settled in Prince Rupert, BC, for five years before her father, Joe, brought the family to Hinton to participate in the start-up of the North Western Pulp and Power Mill.
A very proud Hintonite, Monika had friendships dating back to grade school in the fifties and impacted the lives of so many more since then while living for a time in Edmonton and recently enjoying winters in Arizona.
Monika’s passion for art was second only to her passion for family. She was happiest when the two came together in guiding her grandchildren through painting, pottery and glasswork projects.
Monika was an avid volunteer wherever she spent time including at the Good Sam, where her mother resides, as well as the Hinton Art Club and many others.
At Monika’s request, “Happy Hours” celebration of her life for all of her friends and family will take place on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 4:00 PM at the Hinton Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Hinton Good Samaritan Society.
